Wouldn't massively be an adjective to multiplayer? In this scenario, multiplayer is a noun (people playing together). So, massively would be describing how the multiplayer is, thus an adjective?

No, there's only one noun in MMORPG. And it's Game. Massively is indeed an adverb modifying Multiplayer, although it is awkward to have multiplayer as as adjective. If massively was an adjective, it would be massive, not massively. (Massively Multiplayer) modifies Game as does Online and Role-playing.

Prophecies is easy to start with but takes much longer to get to level 20 than the others. I also would not recommend Factions because I think it has the sharpest learning curve, which discourages lots of players.

While on your laptop go here:

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/referrer/srtest

and select GUILD WARS. It should give you an approximate idea of whether it can run fine or not.

Now if you want a trial key so you can just play, that's another question. Wish I had one.

Dancing in outposts is not actually playing the game with others - so it stands that this is not an MMO

No? And what is it? Look in other MMOs. People either party up and go dungeon in 5 people. Or they go "in world" and hunt for loot. That's not playing imo either. I would say MMO stands for meeting people along the world with ability to team up with them and chat with them. Whether it is in towns or not doesn't matter. Some people rather talk with each other than grindling endlessly.

Oh and I sent jonathankimmm PM with informations about trial key, so I guess you can cose this thread to avoid flame if GW is MMO or not.

What are they doing, if not playing with each other?

True, it's not an MMO in the traditional sense, but frankly that's why a lot of us playing. And going by the term MMO, you realy can't argue that GW isn't one.

Even if people can't see a million other people in the same explorable zone, at least there is the option to meet and group up with anyone in the world without waiting on a server transfer.
So while it might not be massive multiplayer when doing quests, it's still a neat-o setup.

Thanks to Vinraith and others
I should have checked out Massively, I defined the acronim correctly but phrased my question wrong.
So points 1 and 4 fail because of a lack of a persistant world where roleplaying can take place.

Thanks

on that point I am glad we dont have such a game-world it would mainly consist of in game muggings imho

I would find any other online game rather than GW because there's just no freedom of choice, movement, speech, etc. You can get banned for anything and title-grinds are just not worth playing based on Anet's life-long durations on maxing most. Can't max out some because it'll literally take YEARS to! Success is pretty standardized, also. Either you have a certain build per profession and team build, or you FAIL. And the GW community has too many Newbs, Emo's and Negative Players (trust me, I've been around since the beginning). Updates are getting stupider and skills are getting nerfed more and more to the point of making it too hard to do anything anymore. Farming isn't worth the grind anymore, even solo. There's just too many negatives about GW. I've grinded too hard and I'm having trouble letting go of the game... but I will eventually and soon enough.

if you want to experience mmorpgs, gw is a poor choice to start.

gw's gameplay is similar to a first person shooter combined with real time strategy. there's also very little "character progression" and "character development". instead, the game slowly develops YOU. your character will become better up to a certain point. after that, how you perform in the game depends on you entirely. you will NEVER have a character that can demolish everything by itself like you'll get in classical mmorpgs. GW is all about teamwork, strategy, and tactics.

you're right about GW being a strong pvp game. currently, even with the release of Fury, GW is STILL the premiere pvp game in the online rpg genre. there are currently nothing that comes close. however, arenanet (the company that created GW) somehow failed to advertise it as such, and GW, with its revolutionary pvp mechanics, has turned into another rpg slasher. how can a company, with probably the best pvp concept in a decade, fail this epically, is beyond me.

anyways, if you want to see if your computer can run the game or not, simply download the client from guildwars.com. GW runs on a livestreaming basis, so it will only download what you need to start playing. you won't be able to long in currently, but the framerates at the loading screen should give you a pretty good indication on how it will perform.

If you are new, go for Prophocies.
If you are bored with proph, and want something new, go for Factions.
If youare bored of proph/fac and want something to spice up your playing style, and add in a new componant to your play (aka heroes), go for Nightfall.

Simple enough.

The problem is that it's too untraditional. Easy way to level 20, balanced around skills and not gear, and especially instancing and non-persistancy make it go way against the grain. It feels much more like Diablo: Every outpost is more like a chatroom than anything.

I don't like to call it an MMORPG because what do nearly all MMORPG's have? High level cap, a large emphasis on gear, and persistancy. Not only that, but they have much higher expectations due to a monthly fee.

Guild Wars doesn't have any of these things. Why is this bad? Because people come into Guild Wars *with* these expectations. I mean, it is an MMO afterall, right? Others think that it's awesome that they're going "against the norm", or "being different". But if it was so great, why is ANet throwing this all out the window with GW2, and adding things like high-level caps and perstancy?

You can consider GW an MMO if you want, go for it. But don't come crying or whining to here saying that their isn't enough endgame, or coming up with "awsum ideas" like mounts and higher levels. Guild Wars is just an RPG, and it guaruntees none of that.

now just upgraded to 1 gig and geforce 7600gs, its all good, im not the type of person that invests so much money in technology, its simply a waste, it always gets better
